The Catholic Schools Day of Service Campaign came to a close in the morning May 7 when representatives from participating Catholic schools and hospitals gathered with Bishop David M. O’Connell, C.M., in the Diocese’s Chancery in Lawrenceville to reflect on the success of this year’s multi-week service campaign.

This was the second year that the campaign took on the theme: “Hearts to Hospitals.” Engaging thousands of students and their families across the 31 Catholic schools of the Diocese, the campaign sought to benefit hospitalized children and their families in roughly a dozen medical facilities spanning Burlington, Mercer, Monmouth and Ocean counties.

The press conference served as a time for student representatives from about 30 schools to come together and see the larger impact each school’s donations made as well as hear messages from Bishop O’Connell and representatives of the hospitals where the donations were being sent. In her welcome address, Judy Nicastro of the Department of Catholic Schools shared that the expected collection totals exceeded more than 10,000 gifts by schools last year.
