On Oct. 26, Day One of the Novena for the United States of America, Bishop David M. O’Connell, C.M., asks the faithful to pray for this intention: For an end to abortion in our country and for respect for life in all its stages, from conception to natural death.

Pastoral Care Week will take place Oct. 25-31, with the theme “Collaborative Health Care: Chaplains Complete the Picture.”

Celebrated annually in October since 1985, Pastoral Care Week (or Spiritual Care Week) provides an opportunity for chaplains, pastoral care counselors, educators and providers to share their story and celebrate the different ministries in which they are engaged. Objectives of the week include expressing appreciation for pastoral care practitioners and to promote continuing education for clergy, laity and institutional employees regarding the value of pastoral care.

In her 24 years as parish catechetical leader in St. Joan of Arc Parish, Marlton, Linda Mueller has developed a deep appreciation for what it means to form people of all ages in the Catholic faith.

On Oct. 18, she was awarded the 2020 “Chick” McGinty Award for Excellence in Catechetical Ministry during Mass at St. Joan of Arc Church, Marlton. The award was presented by Denise Contino, diocesan director of the Department of Catechesis, and Msgr. Richard LaVerghetta, pastor.

On Oct. 22, the Department of Catechesis gathered Parish Catechetical Leaders from across the Diocese for the annual convocation, held virtually this year.  Paul Canavese, Director of the Pastoral Center, Alameda, CA, addressed the convocation on the subject of whole family catechesis, providing leaders with tools and concepts on how to engage families during the pandemic and beyond. The Pastoral Center is a small business and ministry that provides resources and training for pastoral ministers.

Couples across the Diocese are invited to tune into a special Holy Hour for Marriage that is being livestreamed from Nativity Parish, Fair Haven.

The Holy Hour was planned for couples after COVID-19 postponed the annual Bishop’s Anniversary Blessings Masses. All couples are encouraged to take part in support of holy marriages.
