Giving Tuesday campaign to help Catholic schools • New monsignor named

The Diocese of Trenton will once again take part in #GivingTuesday on Nov. 30 to raise funds in support of Catholic schools.

As a national day of philanthropy, #GivingTuesday was established in 2012 and has garnered millions of acts of generosity in the form of monetary donations and volunteerism. The Diocese of Trenton has participated since 2016, and last year successfully raised $130,000 for participating schools.

In a new video for #GivingTuesday, about a dozen Catholic school students in the Diocese underscore the value of the campaign when they express why they are thankful for their Catholic education. The video will play across diocesan social and digital media and will be sent to the Catholic schools in Burlington, Mercer, Monmouth and Ocean Counties to share in their own communities. Christine Prete, Catholic school alumna and associate director of development operations for the Diocese, also took part in the video, asking supporters to donate, volunteer or offer prayers for their local Catholic school.

Donations are made to the Catholic Schools Have It All Annual Fund and are being accepted now at www.leadinfaith.org. There, alumni, benefactors and friends of Catholic education may donate to a Catholic school of their choice in the Diocese. This year, donors may also take advantage of the “digital wallet” and text the keywords “leadinfaith” to 609-403-3323 to make a donation right from their cell phone.

Results from #GivingTuesday will be reported on the leadinfaith.org site and in coverage on TrentonMonitor.com.

Bishop David M. O’Connell, C.M., announced Nov. 29 that the Holy Father, Pope Francis, has appointed Father Dennis Apoldite, currently serving as episcopal vicar for Mercer County and pastor of Sacred Heart Parish, Trenton, as Monsignor, Chaplain to His Holiness.
